A Client Story
It is a joy to help someone turn a birthday wish into a trip they will remember for years. Recently, we planned a birthday getaway to Seville for a client traveling solo, and her story is one of our favorites.
What made it special was not only the city, with its sunlit patios, orange trees and flamenco evenings, but how comfortable and confident she felt exploring it on her own.
Planning a Birthday Trip Solo
Our client had a clear wish: to celebrate her birthday in Seville. She was also a little anxious about planning everything on her own, which is something many solo travelers tell us. There are so many hotels, restaurants and experiences to choose from, and it is hard to know which ones are right for you.
So we started with a conversation. We took the time to understand what she wanted her birthday to feel like, and what she did not want it to feel like. From there, we built an itinerary around her, not around a standard list of sights.
What We Planned
Every part of her experience was chosen with her in mind:
A hotel she loved: Cristine Bedfor Sevilla, a boutique hotel in a 19th-century neo-Mudéjar building that was once a theatre. It sits in the Casco Antiguo, within walking distance of the Cathedral, the Alcázar and the Santa Cruz quarter, with a rooftop pool and a patio bar around an Andalusian fountain.
Evening at the Setas de Sevilla: a sunset and light show at the Metropol Parasol, with views over the city as the lights come on.
Paint your own silk fan: a hands-on workshop that gave her a handmade souvenir of Seville.
Flamenco: a flamenco show with dinner, plus a fun beginners' dance class to try the steps herself.
A concert evening: front-row seats at the closing concert of the Flamenco Biennale, for a birthday night in the heart of Seville's flamenco world.
The Alcázar: a private guided tour with entry ticket, so she could see the palace at her own pace.
Hidden gems: flamenco accessories from our favorite local shops, and traditional sweets handcrafted by cloistered nuns in Seville's convents.
The small details mattered as much as the big ones. We arranged a special welcome gift to welcome her, with flowers and birthday notes.
