Paris Right Now: A Paris Stay, with a Royal Escape to Versailles

October 20, 2026

Paris is always worth a visit, including in autumn. With demonstrations and possible transport disruptions to keep in mind, a little preparation can help you make the most of your stay.

Here’s what to know before you go, along with an idea for a change of pace just outside the city.

Paris: What to Know Before You Go

Demonstrations and strikes can affect daily life in Paris, particularly public transport and traffic. The impact varies by date and location, so it’s worth keeping an eye on announcements before and during your stay.

Some areas may experience temporary restrictions, and certain metro stations may close on demonstration days. If you have restaurant reservations, museum visits, or airport transfers planned, allow extra time and keep your itinerary flexible.

Dates to Keep in Mind

As of October 20, 2026, the following demonstrations and strikes have been announced for Paris:

  • Saturday, October 24: A further round of protests, referred to as “Acte II.”

  • Saturday, October 31: Another demonstration has been called by the same movement.

  • Thursday, November 5: A national strike and march called by the main trade unions. The Paris route has not yet been confirmed.

Plans and transport services can change, so check the latest official updates closer to your travel dates.

Our Recommendation…

A Royal Escape to Versailles

With demonstrations concentrated in central Paris on certain days, Versailles can be a peaceful change of scene. Just 35 minutes from the capital, it is an easy addition to a stay of two or three nights.

Step Into the World of Marie Antoinette

To mark the 20th anniversary of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, the Petit Trianon is hosting a special exhibition featuring sketches, scripts, moodboards, and costumes. The exhibition runs until January 24, 2027.

Stay Steps from the Palace

For a stay close to the action, Hôtel Les Lumières is a five-star boutique hotel around 100 metres from the Château de Versailles. Set in historic pavilions, it combines period character with contemporary comforts. Breakfast overlooking the Château is a lovely way to start the day.

For a truly special experience, Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle is located within the palace grounds. With just 14 rooms, personal butler service, fine dining by Alain Ducasse, and exclusive after-hours palace tours, it offers a rare opportunity to experience Versailles beyond regular visiting hours.

Make Time for a Spa Day

If relaxation is on the agenda, the Guerlain Spa at Waldorf Astoria Versailles – Trianon Palace is another reason to extend your stay. Spa access and packages may be available to non-hotel guests, subject to the hotel's current terms and availability.
